There are three big peaks in Yorkshire and on this trip the aim is to bag all of them over two days of hill walking. As it's a Bank Holiday weekend, we also plan to offer one night wild camping (i.e. sleeping out on the hills) for those that fancy it. This will very much depend on interest. so please indicate on the application form if you want to wild camp.
Base camp will be at Holme Farm in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, which is conveniently located between Pen-y-Ghent and Ingleborough. We have used this site before and facilities are basic but include toilets, showers and washing-up.
Saturday and Sunday will be the hill walking days then, on Bank Holiday Monday morning, we plan to visit to the annual winch down Gaping Gill before returning home after lunch. All equipment for this activity is provided by the Bradford Caving Club but take your head torch. This activity is optional and you will need to bring £20 cash if you would like to participate.
For those that don't want to do the winch (and see the UK's deepest underground waterfall), there is always the option of a visit to Malham Cove, the Limestone Pavement (for Harry Potter fans) and Goredale Scar.
Experienced, authorised adults will be in charge of each walking group (4–8 people) and the informal training will include walking skills, route planning, route choice, navigation, leadership and teamwork.
This is a self-catering and camping trip. As well as two evening meals and three breakfasts, packed lunches will need to be provided by the participants, as well as food (or money) for the two journeys. The minibuses will stop during each journey at motorway service areas. There is a small shop in the village. Applicants must also provide suitable tents, sleeping and cooking facilities for camping.
