Event Application |
Apologies that this event runs over Remembrance weekend. This is due to availability of both accommodation and Assessors.
This event is primarily for adults who require a Hill walking assessment – either first time applicants or those needing to renew or upgrade their existing Hill walking permit. It is also open to any adult scout section Leader who aspires to gaining a Hill walking permit in the future and would like some formal training, advice and/or log book experience. This is not an IMC 'Have a go' weekend open to novice hill walkers or those who just fancy a weekend in the hills.
Assessment
As well as the Event Application above, candidates for permit assessment must also have completed a separate Hill walking Assessment Application form (including log book) so the assessors can review it before the trip. Those applying for a Hill walking permit for the first time will also have to complete a home paper, which will be reviewed and discussed over the weekend.
Assessment candidates should know what equipment is required to lead a weekend on the hill. Candidates are expected to be able to provide suitable footwear, clothing and equipment and a kit check will form part of the assessment. IMC will provide group and technical equipment such as group shelters, ropes and helmets but you may also bring you own.
Training
Those coming just for training do not have to complete the Assessment Application form but should read the information about the Hill walking Permit process to understand how it all works. If you have already started a log book, please bring it along.
Training candidates should see the IMC Gear Guide for personal kit information and contact the organiser if you are still unsure.
All
You will need a sleeping bag and pillow for use in the centre bunks. Crockery and cutlery are provided and the trip is catered, including ingredients for packed lunch but feel free to bring any favourite snacks or drinks.
The map required is: OL17 Snowdon
All activities are provided under the rules and regulations of the Scout and Guide Associations for joint adventurous activities. It is essential for all the participants' safety that everyone has the correct items of personal equipment and clothing and behaves appropriately. The weekend may be wet, windy and cold. Your personal equipment will be checked before going on the hill and anyone without the correct equipment may be refused permission to go onto the hills.
