February in Snowdonia

18th February 2025

For the first time in a few years some winter conditions – but we had to go a long way up to find them. Two groups had to don their crampons on Snowdon while a third also found a little winter underfoot on the Carneddau.  Group four tackled the notorious [sic] 'Welsh Matterhorn', aka Cnict. The lack of wind didn't allow for much in the way of summit views but did make for some great inversion conditions, especially on the way off of Snowdon.

Sunday was a little colder but still much better than forecast with two groups dashing up and over Y Garn in the morning. The other two groups concentrated on some navigation practice at a more leisurely elevation.

All-in-all a great weekend with thanks as always to all the leaders and drivers for making it happen. A mention in dispatches for Judy, Dave and Babu who stayed to deal with a minibus breakdown on the way home. They had a very long day indeed.
