September in the Dark Peak

We do manage to pick the weather: Saturday started and finished in sunshine but for a few hours in the middle of the day the worst weather of the month did it's best to dampen our spirits. Gale force winds driving the rain in our faces certainly made for some Type II fun. Two groups made the most of the limited scrambling that Kinder Scout has to offer, ticking-off four routes thee up and one down. This had the definite advantage that we kept dropping out of the worst of the wind. 

A third group decided to try their luck along the ridge between Lose Hill and Mam Tor and were equally unimpressed with the weather. This route had the definite advantage that they came back via a nice coffee and cake shop!

Sunday's weather was thankfully much more pleasant as we decamped south to Miller's Dale. Some went for a stroll along the Monsal Trail/Chee Dale valley while the majority met-up with the county climbing team to abseil off the viaduct 100ft above the River Wye.

As good weekend overall and thanks as always to all the walking leaders and drivers for making it happen and to the Climbing team for allowing us to join in the fun.
