Ennerdale Scout Centre at the head of the Ennerdale valley, will be our base for the weekend. Ennerdale is one of the most remote and beautiful valleys in the Lake District National Park which has undergone an extensive re-wilding over the past couple of decades. The main aim for most will be to walk out over the hills on one side of the valley; camp overnight up in those hills; then return over the other side of the valley the next day. Day-walking options can be arranged for those that don't want to wild camp.

Before returning home at around 14.00 on Monday, there will be several options – we can either visit the spectacular Scales Force waterfall near Buttermere or Honister slate mine (includes an additional cost, payable on entry). There may also be the option to scramble up Warnscale Beck, depending on the weather.

Experienced, authorised adults will be in charge of each walking group (4 – 8 people) and the informal training will include walking skills, route planning, route choice, navigation, leadership and teamwork.

Whether you chose to wild camp or not, you will need to provide lightweight camping kit and cooking facilities. This trip is entirely self-catered so x3 breakfasts, x2 evening meals and x3 packed lunches will need to be provided by the participants. Shops in the nearby village of Ennerdale Bridge are very limited, although there are several pubs. Food (or money) is also required for the two journeys. The minibuses will stop twice during each journey at motorway service areas.

Applications are accepted on a first-come, first served basis. You must have suitable fitness, clothing, footwear and camping kit – and the ability to pitch your tents in the dark!
