May Trip – Cancelled

Bad news I’m afraid. We have been keeping a very close eye on the weather forecast this week and it’s done nothing but deteriorate to the point where we feel that there is no option but to cancel the trip.

All the specialist forecasts are pointing to the same strong Atlantic front pushing in from the west bringing heavy rain and very strong winds. Rain is unpleasant but at least bearable, however the wind speeds are now showing gale force for much of the weekend, even in the valleys and that turns things from merely unpleasant to a serious safety issue. We consider any wind speed over 40mph to be unsafe and at times the forecast is showing gusts of 50mph + 

This decision has not been taken likely but all the (very experienced) party leaders are unanimous that given the forecast our options to operate safely in the hills are severely compromised. Our remote base also means that there are few low-level alternatives and it’s a very long way to travel to achieve little. We don’t want to put people off due to a miserable experience but more importantly, we can’t risk anyone being injured (or their kit getting damaged).

Because it's the IMCs decision to call off the event, you will get a full refund.

Apologies once again for the disappointment but safety is always our paramount concern.
